In the spring of 1997 a group of people began meeting in homes seeking God’s will about starting a new church. This small group of believers longed for a church where they could worship and serve God in harmony and peace. As they prayed they felt led by the Lord to step out in faith and start a new church.

Covenant Baptist Church was officially formed and held its first Sunday morning service on June 8, 1997 in the Sullivan Building of Anderson College, now Anderson University. There were fifty-four people in attendance as Rick Smith shared the message from God’s Word. Robbie Smith preached in the evening service. Wednesday evening services were held in the homes of church members.

Thank you so much for visiting our website. We truly hope this is the first of many steps that will lead you through the doors of Covenant Baptist Church.

As you dig deeper into our website you’ll find more information about our different ministries, many serving opportunities, how to join a culture of care, and much more. But for now, we want to take this time to introduce you to our church. Not the church building but the people in it.

Each and every day we experience God’s grace, a free and unmerited favor, and as a church we strive to do the same. We also hope you find a sense of community, a feeling of fellowship with others. And finally, we want you and your family to experience an unconditional, self sacrificing love. Above all else, we really hope that your family finds a home here at Covenant. We’d love to have you!

Before Jesus ascended to heaven He told His disciples: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

Two thousand years ago Jesus commanded His disciples to  make disciples. That remains the mission of the church today. Therefore, Covenant Baptist Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who in turn go and make disciples.

A disciple is a fully devoted follower of Jesus Christ. A disciple is a person who has been saved, baptized, and is committed to growing spiritually, serving faithfully, and telling others about Jesus.

We would love for you to be part of this great mission!
